Millennial Home Buyer
It's no secret that purchasing a home in this day and age is no easy feat. Housing prices are on the rise (especially here in Vancouver) and a lot of millennials face the reality that they may be stuck renting or living with their parents for the rest of their lives. Millennial Home Buyer tells the story of one such millennial. A mid-20s, frugal spender with a stable office job finds himself at his first Open House. However, things don't go as expected and after he lays out what his ideal dream home includes to the realtor she presents him with a harsh reality.
A couple of months ago we launched this website and made a blog post saying we had gone full time and were working hard on new videos – Millennial Home Buyer was one of those videos. Last year we came up with the concept and the talented Mike Russell took the reins on writing while Major Fox Sounds tackled the beat and production.
What appears to be one nice home in the first part of the video is actually comprised of three separate homes. Mike didn't hold back with the song lyrics which left us with the challenge of finding homes that met our criteria as well as some very specific props e.g. a gold toilet seat.
Filming YouTube videos can take you to some pretty crazy locations. Sometimes you find yourself on top of a mountain in Corsica, France (video coming soon) and other times you find yourself in an abandoned house with a coating of rat poo on the floor. The latter was where we spent an unhealthy amount of time filming the third verse of the song. Getting a proper dump of a house was important to us, Hantavirus be damned!
How do you clean a house that has only been occupied by families of rodents and bugs for many years? With minimal safety gear, a couple of brooms, and a few hours of hard work! We didn't want make the house too clean as it still had to look like a dump so we mainly stuck to clearing broken glass, rotting carpets, and a lot of rat poop. Under the feces and cobwebs were remnants of the previous occupant's life. Photos, postcards, and children's toys littered the ground. Whether you believe in ghosts or not, it was a little unsettling to say the least.
We hope you enjoy Millennial Home Buyer – we put a lot of effort into this one! Also don't worry, it won't be another ten months before the next video. In fact, it'll be much, much sooner than that. Stay tuned to our Facebook and Instagram for updates!
