Whistler Bike Park Opening Weekend 2017
The Whistler Bike Park is widely accepted as the best place to ride a mountain bike on the planet and on May 19, 2017 they fired up the lifts for the summer season. Stoke levels were high, so high in fact that a dedicated few camped out since 3:00pm the day before to catch the first chair. That's a little crazy for us, but we were there all weekend to capture the vibe, soak up the stoke, and of course, ride some bikes.
After a few runs we couldn't help but notice that something was missing. The legendary GLC Drop that had sent riders into the finish corral for so many years had been sent packing. In its place stood a large step up jump that riders had mixed opinions about. To many, the GLC Drop induced feelings of nostalgia. It was a big moment in our childhoods when we finally worked up the courage to send it off the big rock. R.I.P GLC, you will be missed.
Matt as a little grom sending the drop all the way back in 2004.
And then again in 2005.
Finally, he hit his peak in 2009. It was all downhill from there...
One of the best parts about the bike park opening is that you get to catch up with old friends and make new ones at the same time. We had so much fun chatting with friends and fans and doing laps with everyone over the course of the weekend.
Mateo saw us shooting photos beside the trail and sent it for the camera!
Reece Wallace nailed this front flip on his second try and sent the village into an uproar.
We asked Dylan Forbes to destroy a few berms for us, he obliged.
Keep an eye on our second channel for more mountain bike and filmmaker content! The season is just getting started and we're stoked for what's to come.
